Role Overview:
As a Senior Structured Cabling Engineer at GCIS (UK) Limited, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality data cabling installations to our clients across commercial, industrial, and public-sector environments.
You will be responsible for installing, testing, and commissioning structured cabling systems including CAT6, CAT6a, and Fibre Optic networks, as well as leading site teams to ensure projects are completed safely, on time, and to GCIS’s exacting standards.
This is a hands-on role suited to an experienced engineer who can take ownership of projects, forward-plan installations, and represent GCIS professionally on-site.
Key Responsibilities:
- Install and terminate CAT5e, CAT6, CAT6a and Fibre Optic cabling systems (singlemode and multimode).
- Perform Fluke DTX/DSX cable testing and produce certification reports for client handover.
- Plan and run installation projects on-site, ensuring materials, labour, and timescales are managed effectively.
- Supervise and guide junior engineers or subcontractors to maintain GCIS’s quality and safety standards.
- Liaise with project managers, main contractors, and site contacts to coordinate works and resolve technical or logistical issues.
- Read and interpret drawings, plans, and specifications for structured cabling installations.
- Ensure all work complies with GCIS’s Health & Safety and ISO 9001 procedures.
- Maintain accurate site records, test results, and documentation.
- Carry out fault-finding, testing, and troubleshooting as required.
- Represent GCIS professionally on client sites, maintaining the company’s reputation for quality, reliability, and service.
Experience & Skills Required:
Essential:
- Proven experience as a Structured Cabling Engineer, ideally with a minimum of 3–5 years in the industry.
- Hands-on experience installing and terminating CAT6/CAT6a and Fibre Optic cabling (splicing, patching, and testing).
- Competence in Fluke DSX/DTX testing and producing client-ready test reports.
- Strong understanding of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA, ISO/IEC).
- Ability to lead site works and manage small teams or subcontractors.
- Confident reading drawings and method statements.
- Full UK driving licence.
- CSCS/ECS card.
Desirable:
- IPAF, PASMA, or SSSTS certification.
- Experience working on construction sites, data centres, or office fit-outs.
- Knowledge of containment systems (trunking, tray, basket, conduit).
- Experience with copper and fibre fault diagnosis.
- Knowledge of wider IT infrastructure or AV systems is an advantage.
